“Hemp is the most exciting industry in Canada today”
“The energy from our members is incredible, said Ted Haney, Executive Director of the
Canadain Hemp Trade Alliance (CHTA) going on today and tomorrow in Calgary, AB. “At a time
when many industries are facing challenges the hemp industry continues to grow year on year.”
THe CHTA’s annual conference has over 450 participants from across Canada and around the
world with some coming from as far away as Australia and China. Keith Jones, General
Manager & CFO, Rowland Seeds Inc., and the newly elected president of the CHTA pointed out
that “We are always gratified with the number of participants at this convention. Year on year
the numbers get larger and the interest is growing.”
According to the association website Canada’s hemp sector is growing and providing secure
supplies of hemp seed and fibre raw materials for domestic and international markets as well as
many processed and value-added products. The industry is highly regulated creating quality,
safety and accountability across the entire industry. Together with a supportive scientific
research community the hemp industry continues to develop new and innovative products for
consumers everywhere.
“This industry is based on the hard work of many people,” continued Jones. “Each year we
honor a person who has led our industry - some in the forefront - some behind the scenes. This
year we were thrilled to give the Dr. Ernest Small Industry Leadership Award for 2019 to Russ
Crawford, the out-going President of the CHTA.” Crawford, a long time industry stalwart was
recognized for his work in both building the industry and the association. His award was greeted
by a standing ovation from the assembled members at the convention banquet Tuesday night.
The CHTA is a national organization that promotes Canadain hemp products globally.
Established in 2003, the Alliance represents those involved in Canada's hemp industry.
Members include farmers, processors, manufacturers, researchers, entrepreneurs and
marketers.
